the steria Fondation grant
2006 Project - cHeerUp!

A project with the cHeerUp! Association

"Computers against cancer"

This project, which was developed by a team of Supélec students, is aimed at establishing a lending system whereby laptop computers with Internet access can be made available in isolation rooms at the Institut Gustave Roussy in Villejuif (near Paris) to 18 to 25 year-olds suffering from leukaemia.

Patients will also be able to archive their data (course work, data from their personal projects, etc.) on the server to be installed in the department. Finally, as part of this project and in conjunction with the hospital's IT Department, the Supélec students would like to ensure optimal security for the patients when they go on-line.

The role of Steria France volunteers: coordination and advice

The Steria – Institut de France Foundation grant has given the students the opportunity to carry out this charitable, concrete and innovative project, with the support of volunteers from Steria, who will provide them with the expertise required to manage and ensure the success of this initiative.

A €9,000 grant finances the purchase of laptops and multimedia kits; the Foundation will also provides sponsorship for the programme by a voluntary employee who will apply his or her project management expertise.

The project is sponsored by François, a Project Director at Steria, who acts as a guide to the association's voluntary team by guaranteeing that the solution meets the needs of the patients, their parents and the medical staff. He may also call on the skills of Steria France consultants and employees.
